Liverpool’s Lennon Airport hits record 5.6m passengers

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) said it handled more than 5.6 million passengers in 2025, making it the busiest year in the airport’s 92 year history.

This exceeded the airport’s previous record of just over 5.5 million passengers set in 2007.

The airport saw growth in passenger numbers and services throughout 2025, with several months breaking previous all time records and, following one of the busiest Decembers for the airport, annual passenger totals for 2025 were 11% up on 2024.

The continued expansion of services with the airport’s three main operators — easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 — throughout the past 12 months all contributed to LJLA’s record breaking year.

Infrastructure investment firm Ancala recently acquired an additional 47.1% share in the airport from The Peel Group, becoming the majority shareholder with a 94.2% holding.

Liverpool City Council retains its 5.8% interest in the airport.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport CEO John Irving said: “To break our all time passenger record last year is a tremendous achievement for the airport and all our business partners based here and is testament to all the hard work that has gone into making Liverpool the successful airport it is today.

“It is something we are all tremendously proud of and as we look ahead at the start of 2026, I firmly believe we will go on to greater success, continuing to grow the business and give passengers across the City Region, the wider North West and North Wales ever more opportunities to continue to make Liverpool their airport of choice.

“We know we can’t rest on our laurels and will continue to invest in further facilities all aimed at ensuring our passengers can take advantage of the faster, easier, friendlier benefits of flying from Liverpool.”
