Property developer Glenbrook said it submitted a planning application to Salford City Council to build 270 private rented apartments on the last remaining undeveloped site overlooking Erie Basin in Salford Quays, near MediaCityUK.
The site is being acquired from property group Peel and would involve the development of a 16-storey scheme with the apartments, gardens, ground floor amenity space and car parking in a building of 220,000 sq ft.
Glenbrook director Ian Sherry said: “This deal further demonstrates our ability to source and deliver exciting projects in the built to rent sector.
“We are one of very few developers in the sector to have delivered private rented schemes from start to finish and should this planning application be successful, we will have achieved consent on over 1,000 apartments in the past three years.
“We have the same number again in different stages of acquisition and design and continue to look for opportunities across the UK and Ireland.
“This site lends itself well to the rental market, being located immediately adjacent to MediaCityUK and in the heart of Salford Quays which, thanks to the strong strength of occupiers and the cultural, entertainment and leisure offer, has become an internationally recognised destination in its own right.
“Subject to receipt of planning, we intend to make an immediate start on site for completion in Summer 2019.”
Designed by Sheppard Robson Architects and advised by How Planning, the development would be the fourth build to rent scheme that Glenbrook has delivered in the North West.
In September 2106 it completed the first phase of The Keel, a 240 apartment development at Queen’s Dock in Liverpool, and Glenbrook is now developing a 232 apartment scheme in Castlefield, Manchester.
Further, the second phase of The Keel recently won consent for a further 257 apartments.
